2025 Match Sponsors
If you or a local business would like to sponsor one of our club matches then please contact us.
All members are invited to fish the matches and the support of
additional members would be welcomed.
Members are reminded to telephone The Match Secretary during the preceding week to book your place as in some instances there is limited availability.
Please contact either Neil (07765 064559) or Chris (07368 691574) to book onto the match in advance.
This helps us plan numbers for the day and assists in deciding how to peg the match.
PLEASE NOTE.
Members are reminded that prior to a match the water in use will be closed to members from Dusk the evening before the match and until at least ONE HOUR after the match is finished to allow for the weigh.
Note the match in November will be on the Abbey Pool and will be a silvers only match, all fish except Carp will be counted, any carp caught must be immediately released back into the pool regardless of size – Good Luck!
Evening Match’s
We will gauge members interest in an evening match’s at the Willows, if there is enough support we will add this into the schedule as a non merit ‘open’ match.
MATCH BOOKINGS FOR THE CANAL.
Match bookings from other clubs are welcomed at a cost of £2.00 per peg please contact Rick Perry on 07905 583947 or e-mail us for more details
Match rules
1. The following rules shall apply to ALL contests fished by members on Albrighton Anglers waters.
2. The club shall calendar a series of 9 merit contests on the first Sunday of each month April to December inclusive (exceptions on bank holidays), a fur and feather contest and one charity contest (3rd Sunday of July) each year.
3. Contest duration shall normally be for 5 hours or as otherwise determined on the day or may be shortened on the day to as little as 3 hours at the discretion of the match Secretary at little or no notice – eg in bad weather.
4. At the specified ‘draw time’ each competitor shall draw a numbered token indicating their peg, alternatively the draw of tokens may be made by a nominated person of the match secretary centrally for all competing anglers.
5. Competitors must fish from within 1 metre either side of the peg marker for their designated peg. Peg markers shall not be moved from where placed.
6. All competitors must restrict their activities completely to these boundaries.
7. No annoyance or interference must be caused to any other competitor.
8. All fish must be contained within a keepnet that complies with current EA regulations.
9. For matches held on club pools, separate nets must be used – one for carp/F1’s and the other for any other species caught.
10. There is a maximum net limit of 50lbs for any net – competitors weighing in over this limit (between 50lbs – 60lbs) will weigh in 50lbs only, anyone over 60lbs will have the net disqualified and it will weigh zero.
11. Any fish over 10lbs must be kept in a separate keepnet, if the competitor doesn’t have this facility, the fish must be carefully taken to the weigh in scales and weighed along with a witness, the weight recorded and the fish released back to the water immediately.
12. Only 1 rod or pole can be used at any one time although other rods/poles can be made up ready to use but not baited. THERE ARE NO EXCEPTIONS TO THIS RULE.
13. Prior to the start signal competitors are allowed to break the water to place and position their keepnets, wet a line to plumb the depth and test the float and to draw water for the purpose of mixing groundbaits/pellets. For purposes of clipping up, competitors can use a ledger bomb with no hook length attached – under no circumstances can a feeder be used for this purpose.
14. No competitor shall begin to fish until the starting signal is heard, and must cease to fish when the end signal is sounded. Anglers indicating “fish on” at the final whistle shall be given up to 15 minutes maximum to land the hooked fish.
15. Competitors MUST be at their peg when the weigh in team arrives. Unattended pegs will not be weighed in and will be treated as “did not weigh” for the purpose of the match and the merit competition.
16. For merit competition purposes, the winner of the contest shall be awarded 15 points, second 12, third 10, fourth 9 and so on decreasing by 1 point for each position down to the lowest weight. Should there be more than 12 anglers, those in 12th place and below will all score 1 point (incl any angler that does not weigh in). Competitors that are not entered into the competition will receive 0 points. The overall merit competition winner will be the person with the highest score at the end of the series.
17. Each angler will count their highest 7 match scores, allowing the 2 lowest scores to be ‘dropped’ from the final league table.
18. Any competitor who has litter in their peg will be refused weigh in and will be disqualified from the competition NB cigarette butts count as litter!
19. No bloodworm or joker allowed as bait in contests.
20. No electronic bite indicators or bait boats allowed in contests.
21. Spinning, lure fishing, live and deadbait fishing are NOT allowed in competitions except for the fur and feathers.
22. All species of coarse fish (incl pike and grayling) may be weighed in but game fish, eg salmon and trout, must be returned to the water immediately and shall not be weighed.
23. Barbless hooks shall only be used.
24. No loose fed floaters or bread may be fed into a swim during a contest, although a single floater may be used as hookbait.
25. No unused bait is to be discarded into the fishery before the finishing signal is sounded.
26. Anyone found in breach of these rules shall be disqualified.
If in doubt – ask !
