Mr Barlows is back!
Our second club match of the season was today at Barlows and with 13 fishing we were able to give everyone a bit of space by pegging right around the pool. Also a big thank you to Codsall Engraving for their kind sponsorship of today’s match.
There were fish caught all around, and the winter stocking of silvers certainly changed the fishing with lots of these new fish caught right around the pool, combined with some tench, crucian carp and bream providing for mixed nets, and the framers all experienced very different matches.
Mr Barlow’s made a return though! The ever dependable Mick Hales never fails to get the most of his peg at Barlows and today, despite not seeing any tench or bream still managed to catch silvers all match with a very respectable 14lbs taking the win.
A different story for me, after catching silvers early they seemed to disappear and a couple of bonus tench to go with the silvers weighed in at 9lbs 10ozs was just enough to take second place by 4ozs!
And in third place was Neil, with 9lb 6ozs, catching all of his bream on the feeder by being patient between fish.
With the sponsorship we were again able to pay out the top 3 and 2 sections so well done also to Andrew and Roger on their section wins.
Our next match is at Willows, we would love a few new faces to join if you’re up for it!
Match Venue: Gunstone
Date: 12th April 2026
Results and final league table for 2025 after today’s match on our canal stretch.
Our first match of the year saw 12 anglers brave the blustery conditions at Gunstone, with pegging right around the pool there was plenty of space but recent days has seen the venue fishing quite hard ……today followed this trend!
Winning off a favoured peg (perm 17) with over 33lbs was myself, boosted by a carp with only a few minutes to go, in second was Ian who made a flyer on perm peg 21 with 4 in the first hour with over 29lbs and in third with just shy of 20lbs was Chinky on peg 11 …pipping Martin into 4th place by just 1lb.
Everyone caught but lots of small fish so not bumping up the weights.
Most fish caught on feeder/bomb with a few on pellet waggler but it feels as though the carp aren’t really ready yet to feed heavily so the waggler is less productive than in the summer months.
Pegs 1-5 fished very hard, and with a cold wind into the anglers faces made for a challenging first match.
Next match is at Barlows and with the winter stocking programme we could begin for a very close set of results.
