Angling in the community
Try your luck at fishing
As an angling club, Albrighton Anglers try to encourage young people to take up fishing, after all they are the future. Without younger generations taking up the sport clubs like ours will not survive. Some years ago the club introduced free membership to junior anglers aged fourteen and under to offer them the opportunity of trying their luck at fishing.
The Committee have discussed on occasions the possibility of holding an open day for juniors to come along and have a go at angling, but unfortunately it never progressed past the planning stage.
Back in February of this year, I read with interest a post on the club’s FaceBook page that club member Mr Paul Hall had taken a coaching session down at the Albrighton Moat Project. After establishing contact, Mr Hall very kindly offered his services and we agreed that a junior coaching session would be arranged in the near future. Mr Ken Lane, the clubs Treasurer had spoken to a local scout leader who had expressed a wish to take up our offer.

And so on the evening of 27th July at Barlow’s Pool, along with the help and guidance from Paul Hall we held our first coaching session. Albrighton Anglers had the pleasure of hosting Bilston First Scouts who turned up with thirteen young enthusiasts whom with the exception of one had never been fishing before.
I am pleased to report that the evening was a huge success, with everyone catching fish. More importantly without exception everyone had a really memorable time and maybe something to replicate in future years.
